Search engine optimization is a method than can seem slow to give results. The concern for any search engine optimisation consultant is convincing the managers of the business whose website he is optimizing not to be impatient – but it is very hard to give a specific answer as to how long it will be before the impact is noticed.
Generally the answer to the question of how long it will take for your company’s website to enhance its search engine positioning will depend on a number of criteria. The age of the website is one: even with no search optimization at all, a long established website will naturally begin to enhance its ranking. A badly optimised small website can be ranked higher than a rival’s larger and well optimised website purely because it has been around for a number of years and built up some trust.
When handling a wholly new website, it will likely be difficult to gain the necessary trust for rankings for at least three months, but often nearer to six to nine months. This is not always so definite. If your company’s website has and continues to put out meaningful content, and if you are fortunate enough to gain immediately from authoritative references from trustworthy sources, you may see the results sooner. It is more likely that the ongoing support needed to highlight the keywords you are using to attract intending customers to the website will need to be done to increase the awareness of your company’s website with the search engines. It is competition with other websites over popular keywords that can make the biggest difference.
If your company’s website has been redesigned, it is again hard to be precise. If the overall website name has not been altered it will still have its existing trust with the search engines, but it may take time for the search engines to crawl the revised structure of web pages. A distinct business name should be able to gain a page one search engine positioning very quickly, but that is not really relying on search optimization to manage that optimization concentrates on increasing the listing for keywords, and that will not include the company name. A large factor in not increasing the listing for a relaunched website is neglecting to perform any optimisation. There will always be at least some drop in activity after a relaunch, even with search engine optimisation. The concern after a relaunch should be to maintain current listings for keywords that have been working in attracting visits to your company’s website.
The watch word is patience. It has been known for a business to use the services of an optimization consultant for only six months with no noticeable impact and end the agreement with the specialists only for the improved ranking to appear in the following month.
The easiest proof of the success of search optimization is the improved search engine positioning, and a search engine optimisation consultant can show that is happening – but he cannot give a specific answer as to when it will happen. If the method is given time and given continued attention, the ranking should noticably better after six months.
